About

Welcome to the class blog of Anthropology 210 at Wheaton College, taught by Professor Donna Kerner in the Fall of 2016.

The idea behind this blog is to engage us in local food issues. We are interested in how college students eat (and drink)— in dining halls, residences, pubs and restaurants, picnics. Is anyone cooking? Where are the kitchens? What kinds of food do students feel they need to have on hand? Where do they shop? What is a comfort food? How do international students (or students from underrepresented ethnic groups) cope with Wheaton foodways? What are the challenges on campus for students with dietary restrictions (health or religious)? What are the politics/economics of our food contract with Aramark? How do we support local growers? What’s the history of our apple orchard and why don’t we have a school farm? What social organizations deal with food issues on campus? What do students think about the Food Connection?

At the end, we hope that we will have compiled a "mini-ethnography" of some of the foodways on the Wheaton campus.
