Allergy Station

The Allergy station has been one of the newer developments in the Chase dining hall this year and has been lauded for having some of the most consistently appetizing food in Chase.  Senior Colin Coco recently spoke to me about his dining experience in Chase and how the allergy station has improved the food:

"Sometimes it has the best food in Chase, it has always been a fall back for me if there is nothing good anywhere else...  One time they had this butternut squash and it was great. I feel like its one of the few stations that has maintained quality since the beginning of the semester, it also has real meat and doesn't feel as processed as in the main sections," (Coco, December 2016).

Colin does not have a food allergy but still sees value in the station, as do many students on campus.  It has become common practice with many students I have observed at Wheaton to take a lap around the dining hall and if nothing particularly stands out they will go for the allergy station because they have food that not only tastes good but also has a healthier variety of food that covers more bases than the main entrance food.  I also appreciate that Chase has been working to make the dinning options more inclusive to individuals with food allergies, as well as making an effort to provide the Jewish population kosher food in the station on the high holy days.  For me this has been a major improvement on Wheaton's normal policy for Jewish students.  I remember my freshman year the kosher option for Passover for two days was a bucket of chickpeas, but since the recent effort to expand the food options to reach more demographics of campus I am interested to see how they handle Passover this year.
