Picking A Meal Plan

Trying to bring more options to food on campus came with having more options for meal plans as well. But how do students feel about this change? This has definitely been one of the most controversial changes in the food services. To be able to eat at Emerson, in most people’s opinions, the best dining option, an individual cannot have the unlimited dining plan. This plan gives only $50 of Lyons Bucks, the primary form of payment at Emerson dining hall. The other two meal plans cost the same as the unlimited plan but instead have a limited amount of swipes and more Lyons Bucks.

The controversy with these dining plans comes from the price. You get the most bang for your buck with the unlimited meal plan but do not get the best food options. With this being said people seem to be pleased having different options for dining plans. Although many people argue that they run out of swipes and money by the end of the semester, not being given enough of each. One student I talked to suggested a way to fix this may be to lower prices in the cafés or adding more money to the plans. But as we know these thing are calculated so that if one of these things were to change the cost of the meal plan would likely change as well.

  1. I think Meal Plan 3 is the best option for having the widest variety of choices. Unless you're someone who heavily relies on Chase three times per day, in which case I feel sorry for your digestive system, it's very much worth it to have the $500+ Lyons bucks for Emerson, Davis Cafe, late night loft food, and other options.

  2. I have the second meal plan, and I still have $190 in Lyons bucks and 150 in swipes. I found that I didn't heavily rely on either chase or the cafes because I don't really find the cafe food appealing, and Chase food can be tiring. I live in a theme house and naturally cook for myself instead of eating at either places. which lead me to think that sometimes the reason people use so much of their lyons buck or swipes is because of the limited access/ time they have to be in a kitchen and maybe they dont know how to cook.

I would like to know how other people living in a theme house think about this?
