If you're like me, you'd rather not eat off a plate that's coated in an orange tint. You'll be even more like me if you have gone through several plates/bowls at Chase in order to find a good decently clean one to hold the food you're about to eat. It seems as though, this daily struggle to find a prime bowl for my fruit in the mornings has slowed. The standard for clean dining in the United States is vague, there is no one way our meals are to be presented. One factor, however, seems to always be there no matter what restaurant you go to, and this is clean dishes and tableware to eat off of. This standard is purely a common occurrence in developed countries, as methods and traditions vary with more extremes where developing countries don't have our worldview on what is clean and what's not. Today, I grabbed a bowl and it was perfectly white, with no leftovers from someone's meal from last night in the deal. Miraculous. I love it. Yes, I know this is definitely not a horrible issue to have, but personally, I really don't think that a dining service responsible for feeding students seven days a week, should let their plates and bowls stoop to a level of uncleanliness like they have. But hey, at least they're clean dishes now, I can't call them out on it anymore.

I've noticed this as well! I wonder if they bought new dishes or rather bleached and scrubbed the ones we already had? I worked as a waiter in the formal dining room at a retirement community in high school and learned its pretty common practice to bleach the white coffee cups on a regular basis. If the dining halls are purchasing new bowls and plate I wonder if bleaching them might not be a better, less-expensive alternative.
ReplyDeleteBut do you think that over the course of almost 2 years, they would have done this before? I haven't noticed this yet before. Also, I must add that there is new forks, as I grabbed one from a stack of forks that were of different shape and design from the old ones. This leads me to believe that they might in fact have bought new sets of everything. Also to be noted, although I personally have returned every single bowl or mug I've borrowed from Chase (...), the number of dishes they have must decrease over time.
